We are seeking a Civil Senior Design Engineer to join our client's Technical Team for a major underground link project.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting and coordinating civil design activities, shop drawing production, technical submissions, and design coordination throughout the project lifecycle. You will work closely with the Construction Team, Qualified Persons, consultants, Client, and specialist subcontractors to ensure design solutions are technically sound, constructible, compliant, and aligned with project requirements.

Job Responsibilities

• Coordinate closely with the Construction Team, QP(D), QP(S), Client, consultants, and subcontractors’ Professional Engineers (PEs) on design-related matters and technical requirements.

• Prepare, review, and coordinate shop drawings for temporary and permanent works, ensuring accuracy, completeness, constructability, and compliance with approved designs and project specifications.

• Review shop drawings prepared by subcontractors and coordinate the necessary reviews, comments, revisions, and clearances with the QP(D) and Client’s in-house Design Team.

• Work closely with site operations teams to review and develop temporary works schemes, provide technical clarifications, and communicate key engineering requirements and design considerations.

• Provide technical support and assurance during the construction of temporary works, ensuring site implementation is consistent with approved designs and requirements.

• Monitor changes in site conditions and construction requirements, identifying potential design impacts and initiating the necessary design change requests and technical reviews with the relevant Designer.

• Monitor the progress of design submission packages assigned by the Design Manager, ensuring submissions are complete, coordinated, technically sound, and delivered in accordance with project schedules.

• Review design calculations and technical documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with relevant standards and project requirements.

• Prepare engineering and design calculations for miscellaneous and temporary works where required by the Construction Team, and coordinate the necessary PE review and endorsement.

• Proactively identify opportunities to optimise temporary and permanent works solutions, with a focus on constructability, safety, risk reduction, cost efficiency, and effective reuse of temporary works.

• Collaborate with designers, consultants, and site operations teams to evaluate engineering options, achieve consensus on technical solutions, and drive practical design improvements.

• Identify, investigate, and resolve design and technical issues arising during construction, providing timely engineering input and escalating critical matters to the Design Manager.

• Support the Design Manager in resolving ad hoc technical and design issues and provide engineering input as required throughout project execution.

• Maintain effective technical documentation, design records, and coordination information to support project delivery and audit requirements.

Job Requirements

• Recognised Degree in Civil Engineering, preferably recognised by the Professional Engineers Board (PEB).

• Minimum 5 years of relevant local experience in the construction industry, with experience in underground construction preferred.

• Strong understanding of local construction standards, codes of practice, regulatory requirements, and safety requirements.

• Relevant experience in temporary works, permanent works, shop drawings, design coordination, and construction-stage engineering will be advantageous.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, coordination, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, consultants, subcontractors, and site personnel.

• Proficient in relevant design and drafting software, such as AutoCAD, BIM/Revit, and STAAD.Pro.

• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and respond effectively to technical issues in a fast-paced construction environment.
