Head of Outdoor Education

An International School is seeking an experienced Head of Outdoor Education to lead and grow a dynamic outdoor learning programme.

Key Responsibilities

·       Provide strategic direction for Outdoor Education across the whole school.

·       Design and implement a progressive outdoor learning programme that builds skills and challenge across all year levels.

·       Lead the planning and delivery of camps, expeditions, residential programmes and experiential learning activities.

·       Ensure the highest standards of safety, safeguarding, risk management and operational excellence.

·       Manage external outdoor providers and develop partnerships with relevant organisations.

·       Lead and develop staff involved in Outdoor Education and support teachers in integrating experiential learning into the curriculum.

·       Promote Outdoor Education as a distinctive part of the school experience and engage effectively with parents and the wider community.

Requirements

·       Bachelor’s degree in Education, Outdoor Education, Recreation or a related discipline.

·       Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE or Bachelor of Education).

·       Commitment to ongoing professional learning and development.

·       Proven experience leading large-scale outdoor or residential education programmes.

·       Strong leadership, organisational and project management skills.

·       Ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound decisions in complex environments.

·       Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

·       Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection and outdoor risk management.

·       Wilderness First Aid or equivalent certification.

·       Expedition leadership qualifications.

·       Duke of Edinburgh, Outward Bound or similar programme experience.

·       Experience working in an international school setting.
