Job Description:
Job Responsibilities
  • Design and implement engaging EAL lessons that are differentiated to support students with varying levels of English proficiency.
  • Incorporate both the Cambridge International Curriculum and WIDA (World-class Instructional Design and Assessment) standards into teaching and assessments.
  • Utilise a range of teaching methods and educational technology to support language acquisition, including multimedia, collaborative projects, and individual work.
  • Conduct baseline assessments of students’ English language proficiency upon entry.
  • Monitor progress through formative assessments and adapt instruction accordingly.
  • Re-assess students at the end of each term to evaluate progress and inform future instruction.
  • Provide detailed reports to parents regarding student progress and areas for improvement.
  • Work closely with classroom teachers to provide targeted language support for EAL students across different subject areas.
  • Develop resources and strategies to assist mainstream teachers in differentiating their lessons for EAL learners.
  • Engage with parents to ensure they are informed of their child’s progress and provide suggestions for supporting language development at home.
  • Stay current with research and best practices in EAL teaching, including the use of WIDA standards.
  • Participate in school-based professional development programs, contributing to the wider school community.
  • Work with school leadership to continually refine and improve the EAL program.

Additional Duties
  • Attend school meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and other events as required.
  • Contribute to the extra-curricular life of the school as needed.
  • End-of-Term Re-assessment and Reporting
  • At the end of each term, conduct a comprehensive reassessment of each EAL student's progress, both in terms of language acquisition and academic integration.
  • Provide written reports to parents detailing progress, challenges, and areas for development, as well as recommendations for continued support.

Job Requirements
  • At least minimum Bachelor Degree in Education, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
  • A recognized teaching qualification, preferably with a specialization in EAL or ESL (e.g., CELTA, DELTA, PGCE).
  • Experience teaching EAL or ESL to primary or secondary students, ideally within an international school setting.
  • Familiarity with the Cambridge International Curriculum is preferred.
  • Experience with WIDA standards and assessments is a significant advantage.
  • Proven track record of supporting diverse learners and adapting teaching strategies to meet individual needs.
  • Strong understanding of English language acquisition and effective strategies for supporting EAL learners.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Cultural sensitivity and awareness, with the ability to work effectively in a diverse, international school environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively, balancing teaching and administrative responsibilities.
  • Ability to use technology to enhance language learning, including the use of online resources, multimedia tools, and educational platforms.
  • A collaborative approach to working with colleagues and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
